Keep Praying for Our Mountain Men

Many of you know that in May of this year we sent Matthew deRose to ouralt region of Peru for a year of ministy.  He was blessed to be partnered with Solomon Grados a Peruvian with excellent English and a heart to serve God.  At the end of October, this team will be at the halfway mark!  We need to keep them in our prayers.  After our November 10-21 trip, we will not be visiting the guys due to the rainy season.  We need to find other ways to encourage them.  I am trying to figure out a note writing campaign.  I would love to have  a note for each of these guys for every day of  the rest of their stay.  Wouldn't that be cool?!  The notes could have scripture, pictures, prayers or all of the above!  Small groups could do it - kids and adults!  Families could send a note and then pray together for the team.  Individuals who speak spanish could write Solomon in Espanol.  Some people will write 2 or 3 for each of them.

All notes need to be turned in by  Wednesday November 9!  More on this to come.

The Joy of Ministry

Just typing the tit;e of this blog seems just a little too "churchy" for me - but is a fact i can't deny!  In fact I was struck with the joy of ministry just this past week!

We were doing something of an experiment this past week.  David Moore form the Florida Baptist Convention, Michael Petty from the Gulfstream Baptist Association, and myself wondered what could be done with the summer missionaries if we were to get them to blaze a trail to new ministry fields.

We had three young men (Jash, Delvin, and Eddie) who gave themselves to this project.

Here were the basic ingredients:

  • 3 summer missionaries
  • a park
  • and a minivan full of stuff to pull off crafts and recreation
  • an unreached neighborhood
  • Various Parkridgers sprinkled in for good measure (The young adults were invited to be a part of the experiment - and others too)

The results were great!  Three young people (teens) were led to Christ.  We averaged about 8 children (under 13) that gathered for crafts and recreation each day.  We made contact with several families who seemed interested in coming to Parkridge.  And there was JOY.

This past week wasn't an easy one.  Personally, I felt pretty stretched.  But to finally be face to face with someone Jesus loves, and to tell them that and show them that.  That is joy!  And to be with a younger sister in Christ who got to witness someone praying to receive Christ for the first time...that was icing on the cake.

I told some of the people at the park that I came there with a dilemma.  I am supposed to love my neighbors, but i didn't know them.  Now that i know them, and have seen their smiles, and watched them care for their children - there's no problem with the love.

How's your joy?

New Website

As I am sure you noticed, we have a new website.  We are working to get it up-to-date.  We appreciate your feedback.  We are saving a good bit of money by managing the site ourselves.  That does open it up to problems, though.  would you send me an email if you see anything out of place or empty or wrongly linked (etc, etc)  Thanks so much!

Calling All Men with Flipping Skills

It is Pancake Breakfast time again here at PBC!  Since our ealry years, we have been having an annual tradition of gathering on Thanksgiving Morning to eat pancakes.  The men lead out in this effort.  It is always a great time of fellowship.  The guys have a blast whether the pancakes get eaten or not!   If you have a spatula in your house,  you are qualified.  If you have a griddle that operates on gas - you quickly rise to super-star status!  Electric griddles are great too - we just...
