I would like to welcome you to my blog.  Last summer I developed this blog so that I could stay in contact with parents during children’s camp.  It was a huge success; parents seemed to enjoy being able to pull up the information about the camp and find out what was going on in the children’s ministry.

Well, back by “popular demand” I plan to update this blog regularly to keep Parkridge members informed about the children and families ministries.

Friday Night Closing Ceremony

Tonight was out last night here at camp.  Tom Headley gave the campers a tool that can be used to help present the Gospel.  The tool is called "Cross Talk;" ask your child if they have theirs, make them show you what they learned. Rom. 3:23 we are all sinners. Rom 6:23 Wages of sin is death. Rom. 5:8 Christ died for our sins while we sinners. Rom. 10:9; 13  Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.   Once you are saved you need to grow: Read your Bible,...

Day Four: Preach the Word

Wow it's hard to believe it's Friday.  Day Four: Preach the Word was this morning's sermon title has we completed our study of Paul.  Rich Andrews gave us a some words to remember our message today: To Rome we go - People grown - Paul speaks - Some believe Acts 28:11-31 1. Paul's reputation          Paul had a good reputation by this time, not as a murderer but as a believer.      Reputation is so important.  What is your reputation?      Should see...

Camp Fire Rained Out!

Our camp fire service was rained out last night.  So, we brought the festivities indoors.  Tom Phillips gave the campers a message about Josiah from 2 Chron. 34.   Josiah was 8 years old when he became king.  What were the keys to success for this young boy king? 1. He decided to follow after kind David. 2. Decreed for the nation to follow God's Word. 3. He was obedient to God and rebuilt the Temple. 4 People worshiped God again.   Josiah made a difference...

Morning update: Day Three - OUCHIE!

This morning the camper heard about Paul in the book of Acts 28:1-6.  Rich Andrews came up with another fun way to remember the story: Boat Breaks - Everyone Escapes - Fire nice - Viper Bites. As Paul and his friend ran aground, they jumped ship and made it to the island of Malta.  While on the island the Bible tells us that the natives were kind to Paul and his company.  They built a fire because it had been raining and our shipwrecked friends were cold.  As Paul added wood...

Thursday Morning

Everything is going well here at Word of Life.  The campers are doing fine and they are so appreciative of the camper mail that has been coming in.  We are just getting in from our worship and ready for lunch.  I don't have time to update the sermon notes because we've got to be in the canoes by 11:30.  I'll blog the notes from this morning and tonight around 9:00 tonight.  Until then keep praying for us.   Brad

Wednesday Night was out of sight!

Last night was another great night.  The weather has been great all day and around 9:00 it started to rain (for the third night in a row).  The rain just keeps us inside, the staff is great at improv and keeping everyone engaged. We have a big praise to share.  So far three of our campers have made decisions for Christ.  Part of our worship rally was spent handing out "spiritual birth certificates."  I won't share names here, but when we get back I'm sure the campers will want to discuss...

Day Two: Wind Blew

Morning number two worship was another great time with the kids.  Music, Drama (life of Paul) and another great message.  Rich Andrews led our service this morning in Acts 27:14-25.  Four quick things he shared with us: 1. We sometimes suffer because of unbelief of others.  Paul warned the men on the ship not to go to Crete. 2. Storms (of life) have a way of showing character.  Paul had character.  We should have character that reflects Christ. 3. The worst storms can not stop...

Tuesday night Worship Time

Last night was another awesome night.  Our camp worship band is great, they don't play the "kiddie" songs; this is real worship!  Our speaker's sermon tonight was, "Know, Grow, and Go." 2 Cor. 13:5 says we should examine ourselves, so he gave us a few words that helps "examine" our life in Christ. 1. Sin (Rom 3:23; 1 Tim 1:15).  Paul said he was the chief sinner.  We all have sin. 2. Cross (2 Pet. 3:18)  Christ died for the unjust. 3. Resurrection (1 Cor. 15:3,4; John 14:19)  Christ...

In case you missed it you can send your camper an email by addressing your message to: floridacampermail@wol.org make sure you put your child's name in the subject line.  The message will be delivered to your camper, but they can not respond (no computers).  Remember, be encouraging!   Look for my update first thing Wednesday morning. Great Night!

We had our first Rally last night.  Our speaker gave a great sermon about how God can give us life here and hereafter.  Ask your camper about the big box of LIFE cerial.  We had one of campers pray to accept Christ tonight after the sermon, so we praise God for answered prayers already. It rained last night so we had to move the carnival inside - we still had fun!    We are looking forward to a great day today.  I'll keep you posted.   Brad, Stacey, and, Michelle

We made it safely!

We safely arrived at around 1:15 this afternoon.  Check in went smoothly and no problem with cabin assignments.  Seems like we've got some great cabin leaders this year.  This year's theme is "Shipwrecked," more on that in later posts. For now we are getting settled in and ready for dinner, then Worship Rally tonight.  Afterwards we'll celebrate our first night here with inflateable night - FUN!! If you are interested in our daily quiet times here they are: Monday - I Cor. 15: 20-28 ...

Don’t Miss Your Opportunity

Romans 10:13-15.  “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.  How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed?  How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard?  And how will they hear without a preacher?  How will they preach unless they are sent?  Just as it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good News of good things.’”   Paul tells us in this passage that beautiful are the feet of those who...

How’d I get here?

I just left the second meeting with the architect going over our new building.  I tried to contain my excitement as I looked around the room.  Sitting around the table were Pastor Eddie, Pastor Daryl, Jenniffer Wood, Rebecca Rosa, Paul Burrell, Wally Nobels and me.  Me?  How did I get here?  Throughout the 80’s and 90’s I worked in the automotive business.  Then I got a little crazy and bought a chicken farm (seriously I did).  In  September of 2000 I was...

10 Funny Thoughts on Parenting

Parenting often contains surprises, some delightful and others, well... How many of the following might you be able to relate to? Hint, if you smile at any one, it's probably because you've experienced it in your home.   1. The later you stay up, the earlier your child will wake up the next morning. 2. For a child to become clean, something else must become dirty. 3. Toys multiply to fill any space available. 4. The longer it takes you to make a meal, the...

Ridge Kids City is the Place to Be!

We are so excited about a new format for our children here at Parkridge.  Starting April 11th children will see and experience a lot of new cool changes in the children’s area.  More information will be flowing through the bulletin and the website, but let me give you the 50,000 foot overview of this new themed based program.  Sunday morning at 9:30 am we’ll provide a supervised area in the auditorium called Ridge Kids City Worship Center.  This area will be open for grades...

Social Media Guru

Well I did it!  Last month I caved in to the many requests for me to get a facebook page.  If you know me well you know that when it comes to the"information highway" I haven't even made it to the "on-ramp" yet.  So,creating a facebook page was a big deal for me.  Many of my friends are on facebook already, but I still resisted.  People would tell me how great it is to be able connect to friends you haven't spoken to for 20 years.  I would quip back, "if I haven't...

Big House

"...the builder of the house has more honor than the house.  For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God. Hebrews 3:3b,4.   Not to long ago my family and I visited the Biltmore Estate in AshevilleNorth Carolina.  For those of you who have been there you know how aweinspiring this house is.  George Washington Vanderbilt II finished construction around 1895 and to this day the estate is the largest privately owned home in the United States...

Kicking off the New Year with a BANG!

New year's eve my family have a tradition.  At the stroke of midnight we go out onto our front lawn and bang pots and pans shouting "HAPPY NEW YEAR" at the top of our lungs (who needs fireworks).  This tradition started about 15 years ago when a dear friend of the family named Isabelle Lado told us that this was a tradition in her family that she brought over from Cuba.  Isabelle was our neighbor across the street. She and her husband fled Castro's regine in the early '60s....

Rockin’ Christmas!

The children’s ministry has been preparing for the Christmas concert “God is with us”  coming up on December 13th.  It’s going to be a “rockin” concert.  Our children’s choir will be featured in 5 songs this year and we are so excited to take part in all the fun.  The children have been practicing very hard the last few weeks on Wednesday nights and I’m very proud of everyone’s effort.  We’ll be joined by about 40 children from our Christian Academy (Elementary)...

Thanksgiving

I’m thankful for my wife, my family, my ministry and for Jesus who died for me.  Sounds like something you would expect anyone to say this time of year.  But, seriously this year I celebrated my 25th wedding anniversary and I’m thankful to God for the 31 years I’ve know Stacey – I am blessed to have such a loving wife.  As for my family; my second son Adam is doing well in the 101st Airborne division (Air Assault); Tyler my third son just joined the Army reserves and plans to attend college...

Trunk or Treat Update

Trunk or Treat Update: I would like to thank everyone who made Trunk or Treat such a success again this year.  We collected 1,500 lbs. of candy and had 47 decorated cars and trucks.  This Sunday (Nov. 8) we will announce the winners of the "Candy Bar" award as well as the winners of the decorated cars in the various categories.    Trunk or Treat has become one of the biggest community events we do here at Parkridge, second only to Easter...
