Well I did it! Last month I caved in to the many requests for me to get a facebook page. If you know me well you know that when it comes to the"information highway" I haven't even made it to the "on-ramp" yet. So,creating a facebook page was a big deal for me. Many of my friends are on facebook already, but I still resisted. People would tell me how great it is to be able connect to friends you haven't spoken to for 20 years. I would quip back, "if I haven't talked to them for 20 years they're probably never were my friends."
Frankly, I decided to create apage after I read an article in a publication I receive from our accreditation agency through the PCA. In this article entiled: "Online Social Networking," the writer reported 68.5 million unique visitors to facebook in January alone. Here are some other facts that persuaded me to "convert" over: 74 percent of the ages 18-34 have a facebook page, 47 percent of the ages 35-44 are involved and 41 percent who are facebooking are between the ages of 45-54. All totaled half of people under the age 55 have a facebook page.
I don't want you to think I'm doing it just because everyone else is doing it, I'm not that kind of a guy to be led by the nose. I'm looking at the potential of communicating with many people in a very concise way. I admit I kind of feared getting a facebook. I was afraid that it might take up a lot of time, but what I found was that of all the different ways of communication we do here at Parkridge, facebook needs to be one of them.
So, look in on my blog from time to time and check out my NEW facebook page facebook.com/PastorBradBoyette.
